GARCETTI HOSTS JOB WORKSHOPS AND FAIR IN ATWATER VILLAGE
The Office of L.A. City Council President Eric Garcetti is hosting a series of job workshops as well as a job fair in Atwater Village.
Last week, participants in the Job Readiness Workshop at Chevy Chase Park heard from Rene Angeles of Ironworkers Local 433 who provided information about how to qualify and prepare for construction jobs (see photo at right).
The next workshop will be held today at 4 p.m. at the Chevy Chase Recreation Center. A representative from Youth Employment Services will lead the workshop.
There will also be a workshop featuring a guest speaker representing the electrical and construction trades on August 27 and a job fair on September 19.

FREE SMALL BUSINESS TAX AND OPPORTUNITIES SEMINAR

On Friday, August 28, all are invited to attend a free small business tax and opportunities seminar. Some of the topics that will be covered include tax law changes, business opportunities, tax credits and incentive programs to help small businesses during challenging economic times.
The seminar is hosted by State Controller John Chiang in collaboration with the Armenian National Committee of Hollywood and the Armenian American Chamber of Commerce - Little Armenia Chapter. It will be held at Karapetian Hall (1614 N. Alexandria Ave.) from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. There will be free parking on-site.

RELAY FOR LIFE HOLLYWOOD THIS WEEKEND
 The first annual Relay For Life Hollywood is this weekend and needs your support!
The 24-hour walk-a-thon is the signature fundraising event for the American Cancer Society. The Hollywood event will take place at Helen Bernstein High School (1309 N Wilton Place) and will begin on Saturday, August 22, at 9 a.m. and conclude 24 hours later on Sunday, August 23, at 9 a.m.
This event is volunteer-driven, and relays across the country have helped to raise more than $1.5 billion to support the American Cancer Society's mission of saving lives and preventing cancer through research, education, advocacy and services.
