PRESIDENT OBAMA VISITS LOS ANGELES

President Barack Obama visited Los Angeles where he hosted a town hall meeting at the Miguel Contreras Learning Complex. More than 1,000 people came to hear the president talk about his plans for our nation's economic recovery and a few got to ask questions. This was President Obama's first trip to California since being sworn in.
"President Obama's trip to Los Angeles demonstrates his strong commitment to our city and to urban areas around the nation," said L.A. City Council President Eric Garcetti. "We are grateful for his leadership."

GARCETTI IN WASHINGTON TO LOBBY FOR FUNDS, SHARE BEST PRACTICES
Council President Garcetti returned to Washington, DC, for the second week in a row to join with mayors and city councilmembers from across the country in meeting with federal government leaders regarding economic recovery funds. The lobbying efforts were part of the National League of Cities conference.
The group also shared best practices and Garcetti spoke to his colleagues from across the nation about Los Angeles's workforce development programs.
"I was proud to share with them information about the Health Care Career Ladder program that we started at Los Angeles City College to prepare students for jobs in the growing health care industry," said Garcetti.
The Career Ladder program allows students to take classes to prepare them for entry level jobs, and then work while continuing to take classes that will help them move up the career ladder. The program has been such a success that Garcetti and Los Angeles City College are working to expand the program to other industries.
