GARCETTI LOBBIES WASHINGTON FOR FEDERAL FUNDS

LA City Council President Eric Garcetti joined a delegation of Southern California civic and business leaders on a trip to Washington, DC, this week where they advocated for federal funding for our region.
Garcetti met with key national leaders, including U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, and Secretary of Energy Steven Chu.
In addition, Garcetti joined a coalition of Californians in meeting a dozen California members of Congress.
"I attended a bipartisan meeting that not only brought together Republicans and Democrats, but Southern Californians and Northern Californians to fight to ensure that our Golden State gets the federal resources we need in this tough economy. In an impressive show of strength and unity, we filled a hearing room at the Cannon House Office Building," said Garcetti. "Throughout the trip, we've discussed our need for funding that will help us keep people in their homes and allow cities to hire more police to keep our neighborhoods safe. Southern California is America's economic recovery engine -- we need our fair share of recovery funding."
ARMSTRONG, GARCETTI RIDE THROUGH HOLLYWOOD TO BENEFIT CANCER PATIENTS AROUND THE WORLD
Council President Garcetti was one of the hundreds of cyclists who took to the streets of Hollywood with seven-time Tour de France champion Lance Armstrong to launch Stages, a partnership between Nike and the Lance Armstrong Foundation to raise awareness of and funding to fight cancer.
"Lance Armstrong epitomizes strength, determination and courage," said Garcetti. "His fight against cancer and his efforts to help and inspire other cancer patients are truly amazing."
Through Stages, artists from around the world create art inspired by Armstrong's story. Los Angeles artist Shepard Fairey is among the 20 artists who are participating in this unique project. TRAVELER'S AID SOCIETY RAISING FUNDS TO HELP FAMILIES IN NEED
