GARCETTI GIVES KEYNOTE ADDRESS AT GREEN WEST EXPO
L.A. City Council President Eric Garcetti gave the keynote address at the Green West Expo, an expo and conference that brought together business leaders, government officials and employees, engineers, architects, environmental advocates, and many others to discuss the benefit to our economy of greening our region. The expo featured green, sustainable, and environmentally-friendly products and services.
"Cities make up 2 percent of the earth's surface, but we consume 75 percent of the world's resources," said Council President Garcetti. "Making city life more sustainable is at the core of creating a better environment and a brighter future. By creating a more sustainable city, we also create stronger communities... communities where we want to live because our air is clean, our water is pure, and our children can play in green, open space in their own neighborhood."
Council President Garcetti discussed the city's new Green Building Ordinance, which he authored and the Mayor signed in April. The new ordinance is the nation's most far-reaching, impacting more square feet of construction than any other city.
NEW TIGER TEAM KEEPING TRAFFIC MOVING IN HOLLYWOOD
Council President Garcetti joined Mayor Villaraigosa and Councilmembers Wendy Greuel and Tom LaBonge to announce the new Tiger Team that will help keep traffic moving in Hollywood during morning and evening rush hour by providing extra parking enforcement to ticket and tow illegally parked vehicles.
The Tiger Team is on the prowl along Sunset Boulevard and is equipped with license plate recognition technology mounted to parking enforcement vehicles to help identify stolen vehicles, Amber alerts, and other scofflaws.
