GARCETTI HELPS OPEN NEW PLAYGROUND FOR SCHOOL, COMMUNITY IN EAST HOLLYWOOD
City Council President Eric Garcetti joined community members at Dayton Heights Elementary School in celebrating the expansion of school's school’s playground. Previously, students had to cross the street to use a nearby playground, but the new facility is adjacent to the campus located in East Hollywood.
“With this space, the students of Dayton Heights Elementary have a place to exercise, play, and engage in safe after-school activities,” said Council President Garcetti. “Other community groups will also be able to use this park. Open spaces like this are important to keeping our children and communities healthy and safe,” said Council President Garcetti.
The new playground is a joint use project between the City of Los Angeles and the Los Angeles Unified School District, which created the park from a dirt lot adjacent to the school. It features a soccer field and jungle gym and will be available for community use on weekends and during non-school operating hours on weekdays.
During his term, Council President Garcetti has nearly tripled the number of parks in his council district.
