Meeting started at 6:00 p.m.

 

Members Present: Estradas, Gavidia, Grimmig, Hisserich, Kato, Khalfani, Lemus, Mandel, Ossey, Shannon, and Sirota (11); Absent: Avila (1); Vacant: Council Districts 6, 10, and 12.

 

Approval of the Minutes from December 14, 2020.

 

Minutes from the December 14, 2020 meeting were approved.

 

Motion: Kato - Grimmig

 

Ayes: Estradas, Grimmig, Hisserich, Kato, Khalfani, Lemus, Mandel, and Sirota (8); Abstain: Gavidia and Ossey (2); Absent: Avila and Shannon (2).

 

ITEM NO.(1)

Presentation by Andrii Parkhomenko, Assistant Professor, Department of Finance and Business Economics, University of Southern California, relative to the potential benefits and economic implications of working remotely post COVID-19; and possible Commission action.

 

Professor Parkhomenko discussed research findings on the impact of working from home on mobility patterns for workers and employers, real estate prices, density, traffic, and public health; and responded to questions from Commissioners.

Presentation by Dr. Leonid Kruglyak, Ph.D., Chair, Department of Human Genetics, University of California, Los Angeles, on genomic surveillance of COVID-19, and current data on mutant viral strains in the Los Angeles area; and possible Commission action.

 

Dr. Kruglyak discussed the genetic epidemiology of the COVID-19 outbreak in Los Angeles, and the United Kingdom lineage B.1.1.7 and its increased rate of infectiousness; and responded to questions from Commissioners.
